linux - Why does "set ruler" get reset to noruler? - Vi and Vim Stack Exchange

i have set ruler in .vimrc.

if run vim , :verbose set ruler? check status of setting, on ubuntu linux says :

noruler last set ~/.vimrc

at bash prompt, grep says :

$ grep ruler .vimrc set ruler

and on debian linux, :verbose set ruler? says :

noruler last set /usr/share/vim/vim74/debian.vim

at bash prompt, grep says :

$ grep ruler /usr/share/vim/vim74/debian.vim set ruler " show cursor position time

why set ruler reset noruler ?

check if set paste? , set compatible? set.

if set, disable them. ruler reset if set.
