Probability - expectation Puzzle: 1000 persons and a door -

you stand in office door, measuring tape. every time person walks in measure him or , keep tally of “record” tallest. if new person taller preceding one, count record. if later person taller, have record, etc.

a 1000 persons pass through door. how many records expect have?

(assume independence of height/arrival. note answer not depend on assumption probability distribution other independence.)

ps - i'm able come answer (~7.5) brute force approach. ( running scenario on 1000000 times , taking average ). here i'm looking theoretical approach.
