when looking select ec2 instance there example t2, m4... understand under general purpose section, numbers carry significance?

number signifies generation each of these. m-series general purpose, c-series compute optimized, t-series burstable instances, f-series have field programmable arrays, , number in these generation of particular series each of these based on. newer generations have higher specs older generations, , cheaper they've become more optimized.

the third column in screenshot number of virtual cpus each 1 gets. think of how many cores instance gets access to.
